Thanks to its partnership with the Carnot institute PolyNat, the SME BT3 Technologies is now able to offer paper and cardboard of which water barrier is obtained through a green chemistry process: chromatografting. This treatment brings the same level of barrier performance as polymeric coatings (from petrochemicals), and also keeps the initial recyclability and biodegradability of the material.
The treatment, that uses bio-sourced reagents, has been developed from research at CERMAV and CTP, both members of the Carnot institute PolyNat. The CTP has then made an industrial scale-up of the manufacturing process, which is available to industrial partners. From a business point of view, BT3 Technologies could also rely on the international reputation of the CTP and on its industrial references in order to initiate commercialization in the papermaking and processing sector.
