The MECD Institute is composed of 4 Industrial Technical Centres (CTI), 4 university laboratories and the CTI Network.

The MECD institute develops an R&D offering that anticipates the major challenges facing the sector. Innovative materials with a low environmental footprint, recycling and reuse, a mix of construction solutions, modular housing are all key areas the Institute has put in place to increase the competitiveness of the French companies.

Research themes in response to the challenges of the construction sector

The MECD Institute focuses its research and offers according to 3 strategic axes, over the entire lifecycle of structures and buildings:

  • Building materials and systems: Innovation & Engineering: Develop innovative structures and envelope solutions with a low environmental impact and taking advantage of the potential provided by the mix of materials
  • Construction and deconstruction: new approaches, new tools. Taking into account the life cycle of the building and its components, integrating the digital and technological evolutions and optimizing the resources
  • Prospective and Societal Changes: Technologies and research applied to the built environment

Remarkable experimental tools

From the test specimen of the material to the scale 1 platforms, in order to characterize and assess the performance of the materials, products and construction systems:

  • Platform for the physicochemical characterization of the materials, thermal characterizations between -40°C and +1700°C

  • Mechanical tests, fire tests, seismic tests

  • Acoustic, thermal performances, durability

  • Physical modelling and numerical simulations
