TEROPP : an example of partnership research between Carnot-Fraunhofer

Teropp - Technologies for terminals in opportunistic radio applications - is a joint project between Carnot institutes and Fraunhofer institutes.

This Carnot /Fraunhofer partnership gathers the Carnot institutes TELECOM-EURECOM, CEA LIST, CEA LETI, UT, C3S, IEMN, and the Fraunhofer institutes IIS, HHI and FOKUS. The synergies created both by the French and German actors induce promising opportunities. For instance, several software packages developed by the Carnot partners have been integrated on a FPGA platform type developed by Fraunhofer institutes.

Tomorow’ Smartphone, a technological challenge:
A Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) or smartphone which auto-configurates to connect to the best available network  is a considerable scientific and industrial challenge.

A program focused on 3 issues:
• Spectrum management
• Embedded intelligence
• Front end

A strong industrial impact:
An industrial commitee with representatives of large companies — Alcatel-Lucent, France Télécom, STMicroelectronics, Thalès, Thomson — as well as SMEs, has been set up in order to ensure the consistency between the vision and the industrial targets.
