Carnot CEA Leti Institute has been developing photonics on silicon nitride for several years now. Today, the technology is mature enough to address growing demand for high-performance chips. 

AVATAR MEDICAL, spin-off from Carnot Curie Cancer Institute and Carnot Pasteur MS Institute, announces a €1.2 million fundraising for its virtual reality solution that aims to radically change the way surgeons access, interpret and act on clinical data contained in medical images.

Today, medical students can practice surgical procedures on "digital doubles" of patients in a safe, controlled virtual reality environment. When combined with haptic interfaces (from the Greek word haptomai, meaning "touch"), these tools can rapidly bring interns up to speed for clinical examinations on real patients.

In 2020, researchers at Inserm, Université de Paris, and Assistance Publique–Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP), in collaboration with the university hospital organisation Institut Imagine (Hôpital Necker-Enfants malades AP-HP), which has been granted “Institut Carnot” certification through The Rockefeller University and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in New York, identified the leading genetic and immunological causes responsible for at least 15% of serious forms of Covid-19. Today, this same French and American team, jointly lead by Jean-Laurent Casanova and Laurent Abel* at the Institut Imagine and The Rockefeller University, is joining forces with Cerba HealthCare, a leading stakeholder in medical diagnostics, to transform these discoveries into clinical applications and screen individuals who are more likely to develop a severe form of the disease and tailor their treatment accordingly.

IQVIA, world leader in the healthcare data market, and the CALYM Carnot Institute, Consortium for the Acceleration of Innovation and its Transfer in the Lymphoma Field, have entered into a strategic partnership around a hematology database, the HemSys software. As part of this exclusive partnership, IQVIA is making its expertise and network available to CALYM, in the valorization of health data for research purposes and access to the market for therapeutic innovations.

For this 100% digital version, the CEA is supporting 3 spin off start-ups from its laboratories that have developed technological solutions in response to three major societal challenges: 

• The energy transition, with Wise-Integration, which will present the world's smallest charger for electric bicycles,

• The digital transition with Alkalee, which has developed a software suite equipped to bring agility and openness to the vehicles of tomorrow,

• And the health of the future, with iUMTEK for rapid quantitative and qualitative diagnosis of air pollution

Institut Curie (Curie Cancer Carnot Institute) and Google initiate a joint artificial intelligence research program to develop and implement deep learning methods for the analysis of complex single-cell transcriptomic and epigenetics data. Obtained from mouse samples and cell lines, these valuable data sets will be used to develop new deep-learning algorithms. In the long term, this research project could help characterize the heterogeneity of tumors and predict resistance to treatment.

Owkin, a startup that deploys AI and Federated Learning technologies to augment medical research and enable scientific discoveries, announces a collaboration with Lymphoma research consortium Institut Carnot CALYM. This engagement was formed to leverage high-quality datasets from LYSARC, member of Institut Carnot CALYM, as well as Owkin’s pioneering technologies and research platform, to advance clinical research and drug development for the benefit of patients.

Each year, we host Leti Innovation Days (LIDs) to stimulate creativity and innovation in the semiconductor field. LIDs is a special moment where we, together, can imagine the next technologies that will have a strong impact in this industry. 

LIDs 2020 were initially planned June 24-26, but due to the global pandemic situation, we have decided to reschedule our Leti Innovations Days and workshops during Oct. 12-16, 2020 in Grenoble (France). We hope this will enable the attendees to find a source of interest in the quality of the agenda and a source of enthusiasm from the multiple discussions. The theme for LIDs 2020 is "New Turns in Innovation to Embrace the World"
